Environment

Permanent Change

As mentioned in the transport policy, there will be a radical change to our environment. With roads replaced with footpaths, cycle paths and nature combined with the removal of motorised transport on land our environment will truly be green, healthy and natural.

Aside from that, more of our energy will come from renewables. Currently renewables contribute towards about 40% of the UK’s electricity generation, but with new offshore wind farms this will increase. Since 2017 offshore wind has become cheaper than nuclear energy.

Consumption of energy is, perhaps surprisingly, falling. Between around 2005 and 2015 energy consumption in the UK fell by about an equivalent of 40 million tonnes of oil, according to the office for national statistics (ONS).

Furthermore, there will be subsidies to make homes more efficient, homes will be insulated and double glazed. Photovoltaic solar panels will also be subsidised in areas where it has been deemed efficient to do so. After 3 years, any homes that are not certified as energy efficient will have to pay a higher rate of council tax. In addition landlords whose homes have a lower energy rating than C, will be prohibited from renting out that property.

No new nuclear power plants will be constructed, however the development of fusion technology will be heavily supported in the hope that it may bring unlimited and extremely cheap energy for all.

Animals & Nature

The total road length in Britain is about 400,000 km, while this length will remain, repurposed as cycle paths and footpaths, the width can be significantly reduced once the Underground Transport Network (UTN) has been rolled out and motorised transport banned. This new spare space will be part of the growing rewilding projects that will become home to flora and fauna, allowing for a minimum of 100m new trees to be planted.

The rewilding projects will develop and expand all around the UK with numerous reintroduction programmes to allow our once lost native species to thrive again.

Private residential gardens will be banned from using artificial turf and encouraged to avoid using paving stones and other forms of tile and concrete.

Hunting

Fox hunting and any hunting as a ‘sport’ will be fully banned. Punishments will be handed down to any citizen that takes part in ‘trophy hunting’ at home or abroad (upon their return).

Climate Change

It is expected that once following these steps, that we can reach the internationally agreed climate temperature increase, limited at 1.5C.
It is also hoped that the nations of Britain would become a role model for other countries to follow.

Water Conservation

By 2030 every household must have a water container in their garden, if they don’t already have one, one can be provided to them for free by their local council. Failure to have a water container in their garden will result in a fine or increased council tax, for gardens larger than 2.5m x 2.5m.
Furthermore there will be strong recommendations to include a filter.

Awareness Campaigns

Advertising campaign to raise awareness and promote turning off electronic devices before going to bed.

Advertising campaign to encourage people to consume less meat, especially beef.

Advertising campaign to promote healthy and natural gardens with less paving stones, without artificial turf and with real flowers, plants and trees.
